Hauck Leads Stonehill Past American International, 4-2

Senior righthander improves to 2-0 this season after striking out four and giving up one run through 6 innings

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 6, 2016) – Senior righthander John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Penn-Trafford) held the American International College baseball team to one run over six innings of work as Stonehill College posted a 4-2 non-conference victory today at Feinbloom Field on the campus of Barry University in Miami, Florida.

Hauck put together a quality start this afternoon, pitching six innings of one run ball to go with five hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Senior Mike Krupczak (Springfield, Massachusetts/Cathedral) took over in the seventh and pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. Junior closer Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) pitched the ninth inning and recorded his first save of the year, giving up one unearned run and a walk.

Senior outfielder Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) continued to produce for the Skyhawks in the leadoff spot, as he went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Senior outfielder Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles) also posted a two-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Sophomore third baseman Isiah Nunez (Brooklyn, New York/Berkshire School) registered two runs with a double, while senior Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Massachusetts/BC High) also recorded a double as well as a run.

American International was led by senior outfielder Tyler Geffert (Hopedale, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman designated hitter Mike Wroth (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee), who registered a combined two hits, with a homerun and a double.

Senior righty Harrison Paige (Springfield, Massachusetts/Cathedral) took the loss for the Spartans despite turning in a solid effort, as he struck out five and gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits through eight innings.

Stonehill opened the scoring in the top of the third when Hocking led off the inning with a double and came around to score when Nunez reached base on an error. After Hoyt singled, sophomore Tyler Carey (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) drove in Nunez on a sacrifice fly. AIC responded in the bottom half of the third inning when Geffert hit a solo homerun to cut the Skyhawk lead in half.

Stonehill scored twice more in the fifth inning to give them some breathing room. Nunez got the inning started with a lead-off double and Hoyt reached base on an error by the third baseman, scoring Nunez. After Carey popped out to the catcher, Campbell hit a single to drive in Hoyt.

American International scored once more in the ninth inning when senior Karl Kapinos (South Hadley, Massachusetts/Hopkins Academy) led off the inning getting on base as he was hit by a pitch. Junior third baseman K.J. Wright (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Minnechaug) drove Kapinos in, reaching third base on an error. Solomon shut the door after that, earning the save and sending the Skyhawks off with a win.

Stonehill (3-5, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow morning as they are set to take on Wilmington (Del.) University at 10 a.m. American International (1-4, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow as they play Wilmington as well at 1:30 p.m.
