MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 27, 2016) – The Stonehill College baseball team broke out for 15 runs in earning their first win of the season over Felician College this evening in non-conference action as part of the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge at the Polo Grounds.

Senior outfielder Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles) led the offensive outburst, hitting for the cycle and going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored. Junior shortstop Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) was 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while sophomore third baseman Isiah Nunez (Brooklyn, New York/Berkshire School) and junior right fielder Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) combined for two doubles and five RBI.

Making his first start of the season, senior John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Penn-Trafford) earned the win for the Skyhawks after striking out five and allowing three earned runs over seven innings of work. Freshman Justin Lynch (Shelton, Connecticut/Shelton) went the final two frames, giving up just one unearned run on two hits, while striking out three.

Senior righty Dean Loucka (Wood-Ridge, New Jersey/Wood-Ridge) took the loss for Felician, as he gave up six earned runs on five hits over 0.2 innings while walking one.

Senior Ralph Caccavale (Massapequa, New York/Plainedge) and sophomore Jason Polgano (Bronx, New York/Cardinal Spellman) paced the Golden Falcons at the plate, going a combined 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore third baseman Bruce Strickland (Hazlet, New Jersey/Raritan) drove in a run.

Stonehill came out of the gates swinging, scoring six runs in the top of the first and knocking out Felician's starting pitcher before he could finish the inning. Senior Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) led off the game with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lee. Campbell proceeded to knock him in with a triple and scored a run himself on a balk. Monte, Nunez and sophomore Tyler Carey (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) all recorded RBI's in the first before the Skyhawks were eventually retired.

Junior Steve Lee went 4-for-5 at the plate today to continue his torrid start to the season.

Stonehill didn't take their foot off the gas as the Skyhawks scored five more unanswered runs in the second and third inning to push the lead to 11-0. Campbell led off the second inning with a base knock and was moved to second base on a single by senior catcher Eric Schneider (Camarillo, California/St. Bonaventure). After Monte walked to load the bases, junior Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) and sophomore Alexander Joyce (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) followed up with RBI singles. For the third consecutive inning, the Skyhawks got their leadoff man on base as Lee led off the third inning with a single. He would score on the very next play as Campbell blasted a homerun for his first of the year.

Felician got two runs back in the bottom half of the third on two hits and a walk. The teams would exchange runs in the fifth inning as Lee got on base with a hit and Campbell moved him into scoring position with a double that completed his cycle. Monte brought Lee home with one out on a fielder's choice to the third baseman. Palgano hit his first homerun of the season to score the lone run in the inning for the Golden Falcons.

The hits kept coming for Stonehill as sophomore Alex Hurley (Rumford, Rhode Island/Worcester Academy) opened the eighth inning with a base knock. Joyce and Carey followed up with singles of their own to load the bases for freshman William Kelleher (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) who registered an RBI single.

Hauck worked through the sixth and seventh inning, keeping Felician off the board, before giving way to Lynch who made his season debut. Lynch pitched his way through three errors behind him, only allowing one unearned run.

Stonehill (1-3, 0-0 NE-10) will be back in action tomorrow against Chestnut Hill College, scheduled for noon. Felician (3-6, 0-0 CACC) is set to take on the University of New Haven tomorrow at noon as well.
