All-NE-10 first team selections helped Stonehill land third NCAA Tournament bid in program history this season

EASTON, Mass. (May 15, 2015) – Stonehill College senior shortstop Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and junior center fielder Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) have both earned All-East Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), it was announced earlier this week.

Fratus, an All-NE-10 first team selection this spring, earns his second career All-Region honor after being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region squad as a sophomore in 2012. Through the end of the NE-10 Tournament last Saturday, the senior captain had started all 47 games at shortstop for the Skyhawks, hitting .320 (56-for-175) with an NE-10-leading 21 doubles to go with one triple, two home runs and a team-high 37 runs batted in. Fratus, who got on base at a .429 clip and posted a .486 slugging percentage, also drew 32 walks (2nd in NE-10), scored 41 runs (9th in NE-10) and stole six bases in seven attempts.

The Plymouth, Massachusetts native posted a season-high ten-game hitting streak from April 25th to May 7th, a stretch in which he batted .395 (15-for-38) with six doubles, eight walks, ten RBI and 12 runs scored, leading Stonehill to a 9-1 mark. Fratus has reached base safely in all but six games this season, including the last 14 straight. He has recorded multiple hits 18 times, and driven in multiple runs on seven occasions. On February 22nd against Chestnut Hill College, he went 4-for-6 at the plate with three doubles and four RBI in a 12-0 Stonehill victory. Last Saturday in the NE-10 Tournament final against Franklin Pierce University, Fratus turned in another four-hit effort while also scoring a pair of runs and driving in one, but the Skyhawks fell 7-6.

Senior Dan Fratus, an All-NE-10 first team selection this spring, joins Hoyt on the NCBWA All-East Region squad.

In 192 career games for Stonehill, Fratus is a .305 (215-for-706) hitter with 47 doubles, 13 triples, ten home runs and 117 RBI. He owns a .401 career on-base percentage and a .450 slugging percentage while drawing 104 walks, scoring 121 runs, and stealing 27 bases.

Hoyt, also an All-Conference first team selection this season, collects the first All-Region honor of his career. Through the end of the NE-10 Tournament, the junior had started all 47 games for the Skyhawks in center field, batting .347 (74-for-213) with 12 walks, eight doubles, one triple, one home run and 25 RBI. Hoyt also did significant damage on the basepaths, stealing 33 bases (2nd in NE-10) in 37 attempts and scoring 45 runs.

The Walpole, Massachusetts native opened the 2015 campaign with a six-game hitting streak, and also hit safely in nine straight games from March 7th-13th before posting an eight-game streak from April 12th-22nd. Hoyt has reached base in all but four games this season, recorded multiple hits 26 times and scored multiple runs on 14 occasions.
