Garden City, New York native went 8-2 with a 1.84 ERA in 2014
EASTON, Mass. (May 15, 2014) – Stonehill College junior right-handed pitcher Jim Duff (Garden City, New York/Garden City) has been named to the All-East Region second team by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Daktronics, it was announced today.
Duff anchored Stonehill's pitching staff in 2014 with a breakout season that included an 8-2 record in 11 starts, a 1.84 earned run average, and 62 strikeouts in 83 innings of work. The junior also posted three complete game efforts (including one shutout) and issued just five walks over the course of the entire season, while holding opponents to a .221 batting average. Duff was rewarded for his efforts with a selection to the Northeast-10 All-Conference first team last week.
Duff, who earned wins in his first six starts of the season, opened his junior campaign by tossing seven shutout frames in Stonehill's 8-0 victory against Caldwell College on February 21st. He followed that up with a pair of wins against Saint Thomas Aquinas College, before striking out a season-high nine batters over seven innings in an 8-2 triumph at American International College.

Duff improved to 5-0 with a complete game, eight strikeout performance at then No. 26 Franklin Pierce University on March 28th, and the junior upped his record to 6-0 in his next start, as Stonehill came back to defeat Assumption College, 6-5. Duff suffered his first setback on April 9th, as Assumption got to him for six runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
In his next start, Duff responded with a complete game shutout against Saint Michael's College, before giving up just one earned run over seven frames in a losing effort at No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University. The first team All-NE-10 selection wrapped up his regular season with a complete game, two-run effort against Merrimack College, but he did not earn a decision. Duff made his last start of 2014 in the first round of the NE-10 Championship at Franklin Pierce, and he earned the win after going the distance for the third time and surrendering just two earned runs on eight hits.
Duff was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team as a freshman in 2012 after going 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 16 appearances (three starts). He recorded one complete game, two saves, and struck out 46 batters in 51.1 frames. Last season, Duff earned All-Conference third team accolades, as he went 4-4 in 11 starts with a 2.63 ERA. In his career, Duff is 15-8 overall in 38 appearances (25 starts) with a 2.20 ERA. He has recorded 169 strikeouts while only issuing 35 walks in 213 innings of work.
Stonehill (30-20, 17-10 NE-10) finished third in the NE-10 Northeast Division after going 13-8 in divisional play during the regular season. The Skyhawks reached the 30-win mark for the fourth time in five years, and earned a berth in the NE-10 Championship for the 13th time in head coach Pat Boen's 17-year tenure.
