EASTON, Mass. (April 6, 2013) – The Stonehill College baseball team split a pair of games with the Le Moyne College Dolphins in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field on the campus of Stonehill College in Easton, Mass.
Stonehill 5, Le Moyne 4 (11 Innings)
Campbell's walk-off single lifts Stonehill to game one triumph
Freshman Brian Campbell (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles) had two hits including the game-winning single in the 11th inning to lead the way for Stonehill in game one. Anthony Pagano (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) and Michael Zeiner (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) also registered RBIs for the Skyhawks.
Junior Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine –Endwell) reached base two times including an RBI-single in the third inning, to pace the Dolphins. Senior Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) also recorded an RBI for the Dolphins in game one.
Junior reliever Armand Rugel (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) claimed his fifth victory of the season in a three-inning outing for Stonehill. Rugel fanned four batters and gave up three hits in the win. Freshman Jim Duff (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) started and went seven innings , yielding four runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks. Mike Krupczak (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Skyhawks in the eighth.
Sophomore Zach Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) was charged with the loss for the Dolphins. Place gave up one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Kevin Carroll (Jamesville, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) got the start, going 7.1 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. Carroll struck out nine Skyhawks in the appearance.
After Stonehill got an unearned run in the first inning, Le Moyne claimed two runs in the third to take its first lead of the game. Pat Wiese (Fayetteville,N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored of the game on a wild pitch following a walk. Reynolds added to the Le Moyne tally when he singled home a run three batters later to make it 2-1 Dolphins.
Stonehill responded in the bottom of the frame to tie the contest at 2-2. Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) singled and Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) walked, making way for Zeiner's RBI-single to right field, scoring Karalis.
The Dolphins recaptured the lead with two runs in the seventh. With runners on first and second, the Dolphins attempted a double-steal and scored a run following a throwing error by the catcher. Later in the inning, O'Connor drove home the Dolphins' fourth run when singled to left field.
Stonehill launched a comeback in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at four. With Fratus on second and Campbell on first, Pagano hit a two-run double down the right field line to knot the game.
The game remained tied until the 11th inning. Stonehill put pressure on place, with Karalis singling, Fratus singling and Zeiner walking. Campbell ended the game when he hit a walk-off single through the right side to drive home Karalis.

Sophomore pitcher Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) pitched a complete game to stifle the Skyhawks and lead Le Moyne to the victory. Davis gave up just two earned runs on five hits, while striking out seven batters in the win.
Freshman John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) was saddled with the loss for Stonehill. The freshman gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks. Freshman Patrick Nicholson (Middleboro, Mass./Middleboro) pitched 2.2 good innings for the Skyhawks. Nicholson gave up just three hits while striking out three batters in his fourth appearance of his collegiate career.
The Dolphins wasted no time getting a lead as they collected two runs in the first. Wiese opened the game with a double to center field and was driven in when Reynolds knocked an RBI-single to center. Two batters later O'Connor plated Reynolds when he grounded out the third.
The score remained 2-0 until the seventh inning when the Dolphins added two more runs. Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing) had a leadoff walk and later scored on a Reynolds RBI-single. Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) added an RBI in the inning when he successfully completed a suicide squeeze to score Wiese and give the Dolphins a four-run lead.
The Skyhawks cut the lead in half in the eighth inning. Following a Zeiner single to left field, Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Mass./BC High) hit his first collegiate triple to right center field, plating Zeiner for the first Stonehill run. Hocking scored on an RBI groundout by Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) later in the inning.
That was as close as the Skyhawks would make it, as Davis held Stonehill scoreless for the rest of the game to earn the victory.
Next up for Stonehill (16-10, 4-4 NE-10) is a Sunday double-header with NE-10 foe Saint Rose beginning at 12:00 pm. The Dolphins (10-15, 4-5 NE-10) return to action Sunday for a double-header with Bentley tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm.
