Bellingham, Mass. resident welcomed as newest member of Skyhawks baseball program

In October, 2012, Kyle suffered a stroke that caused him to lose function of the left side of his body. According to doctors, the stroke was caused by Vasculitis, a medical condition where blood vessels are destroyed by inflammation. In Kyle's case, the Vasculitis affected blood vessels in his brain, leading to the stroke.

Though Kyle is almost fully recovered from his stroke, he must continue to undergo a six-month chemotherapy, steroid, and vitamin treatment at Boston's Children's Hospital to help prevent future strokes.

"Kyle is such a strong young man to be able to battle the way he has," said head coach Pat Boen. "For anyone to have to deal with what Kyle is going through is tough, but when it's just an 11-year old kid, you can really see how strong he is."

Kyle is an avid Boston sports fan, listing Jacoby Ellsbury, Tom Brady, and Kevin Garnett among his favorite players. He enjoys Italian food, especially Chicken Parmesan and lists "Grown Ups" and "Zoo Keeper" among his favorite movies. Kyle is very excited to be a member of the Stonehill baseball team.

Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges, Together) is a New England based non-profit that aims at improving the quality of life for kids facing life-threatening illnesses by creating unparalleled team based support systems with area college athletic teams. Kyle is the latest from Team IMPACT to join the Skyhawk family as the baseball team joins the football, the men's and women's basketball, field hockey and ice hockey teams to be involved with the program.

The baseball team currently holds a 15-9 overall record, with a 3-1 mark in NE-10 Northeast Division play. The Skyhawks are ranked fifth in the NCBWA East Region Poll and have been ranked as high as 21 in the NCBWA National Poll this season. The Skyhawks recently took two of three from the ninth ranked Southern New Hampshire Penmen. Next up for Stonehill is pair of games against the Le Moyne College Dolphins, Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
