Soulier Named to New England Baseball Journal’s “Players to Watch” List

Junior pitcher one of ten Northeast-10 "Players to Watch"

EASTON, Mass. (March 5, 2013) – Junior Zach Soulier (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) of the Stonehill College baseball team was named to the New England Baseball Journal's (NEBJ) "Division II Players to Watch" list in the journal's most recent issue.

Soulier, a starting pitcher for the Skyhawks, was included on the list following a 2012 season in which he went 5-1 in 10 appearances. The Milford, Conn. native owned a 3.24 earned run average over 50.0 innings in 2012. He recorded 40 strikeouts on the season and held a 7.20 strikeouts per game average. Soulier's best game was a seven-inning, eight strikeout performance in a win over Bridgeport.

Soulier has won both games he has appeared in this season. The junior has pitched 16.0 innings, giving up just one run on eight hits and three walks, while striking out 14 batters. Soulier pitched a complete game shutout in Stonehill's 9-0 win over Assumption College Sunday, the first complete game shutout of his career.

Stonehill is off to a hot start after starting the year with a 7-3 record. With the 7-3 record, the Skyhawks have moved into the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) top-25 poll, earning the 21st ranking. Stonehill also moved up in the NCBWA East Region poll and are now ranked second behind NE-10 foe and 11th ranked Southern Connecticut.

The Skyhawks (7-3, 0-0 NE-10), who fell to the Felician College Golden Falcons earlier today, continue competition in the 65th Annual Rollins College Baseball Week with another game against Felician tomorrow at 2:30 pm.
