Kelly homers twice, knocks in five runs for the Hawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 29, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh overall in the latest NCBWA East Regional Poll, fell to Saint Anselm College, 11-1, in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Northeast Division action on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

Senior left-handed pitcher John Healy (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) allowed just one run (unearned) on five hits, one walk and six strikeouts to improve to 7-1 overall on the season. Sophomore Matt Lessard (Hooksett, N.H/Trinity-Pawling) fanned a pair of batters over two scoreless innings while Ryan Cosmopulos (Seekonk, Mass./Moses Brown) struck out one hitter in a scoreless ninth.

Senior Eric Haughn (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) was handed the loss on one-and-one-thirds innings pitched, six hits, seven runs (all earned) and one walk. Classmate Matt Olsen (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) tossed two scoreless frames with one walk and one punchout while fellow senior Brendan Wright (Easton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) hurled one scoreless inning, issued one walk and also fanned a batter.

The Hawks claimed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as sophomore left fielder Dan Lagasse (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) plated a run with a single to centerfield and freshman designated hitter Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) knocked in two with a double to left field.

Junior first baseman Robert Kelly (Aurora, Colo./Santa Margarita Catholic) highlighted a five-run second inning for Saint Anselm with a two-run homer to right field on a 3-2 offering from Haughn.

In the eighth inning, Kelly launched a three-run homer to right field capping the Hawks scoring output on the afternoon. Kelly finished the contest going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks and five runs batted in. Hayden went 2-for-4 with three RBI's.

Stonehill scored its lone run in the seventh inning on an infield single from senior left fielder Michael Magnussen (Carver, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy). Sophomore Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) led off the inning and reached on an error and Steven Popp (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) followed with a double to left field to set up the scoring.

The Skyhawks (26-18, 14-11 NE-10, 9-8 Northeast Division) travel to UMass Lowell on Tuesday, May 1 for a Northeast Division matchup at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm (25-21-2, 17-10-1 NE-10, 13-6-1 Northeast Division) take on Franklin Pierce University on the road at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
