Karalis Earns NE-10 Player of the Week Honors

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2012) – Stonehill College sophomore right fielder Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Player of the Week for baseball by the league office today.

Karalis led Stonehill to a 4-1 week overall while posting a slash line of .368/.500/1.053 in five games played. Karalis hit three homers, knocked in 11 runs, had two doubles, one triple and also scored seven times. Against Saint Michael's in a doubleheader on Sunday, Karalis had three homers, including a walk-off round-tripper in game two, and seven RBI's.

On the season, Karalis is batting .309/.425/.543 with seven doubles, three triples, three homers, 20 runs batted in and 22 runs scored. The sophomore is one-for-one in stolen base attempts and perfect in the field in 59 chances (56 putouts, three assists) this spring. Karalis' longest hitting streak of the year has spanned five games (February 24-26) and he has put together nine multi-hit games. Karalis also leads the team in multiple-RBI games with six.

Karalis is hitting .333 (9-for-27) with runners in scoring position, .545 with runners on third and less than two outs and is second on the team in two-out RBI's (seven).

In the NE-10, Karalis ranks in the top-15 in several categories including triples (3rd), home runs (6th), slugging percentage (8th), total bases (9th), runs (10th), doubles (12th) and runs batted in (12th).

Stonehill College (18-9, 6-3 NE-10, 3-1 Northeast Division), ranked fourth overall in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Regional Poll, hosts Bentley University on Tuesday, April 3 in a single game NE-10 matchup beginning at 3:30 p.m.
