Stonehill's All-Region pitcher/outfielder to play in Thursday night's 37th annual NEIBA All-Star Game in Lowell

EASTON, Mass. (June 1, 2011) – Stonehill College junior outfielder/lefthanded pitcher Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division II All-Star Team and will participate in the 37th Annual NEIBA All-Star Game on Thursday night, June 2, at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., at 7 p.m.

Admission to tomorrow night's game which will place NEIBA All-Stars from NCAA Divisions II and III against the NEIBA Division I All-Star team is $5.00 and gates to LeLacheur Park, home of the Boston Red Sox short season Class A affiliate the Lowell Spinners, will open at 6 p.m.

It marks the second-straight year White will participate in the NEIBA All-Star Game, but he did not appear in last year's game at Fenway Park that was cut short after three innings due to severe weather with the College Division (Divisions II & III) holding a 2-0 lead. White has earned second team All-East Region honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Daktronics this season as well as All-Northeast-10 Conference honors for the second-straight year with his selection to the first team.

White started all 48 games for Stonehill this season, batting .331 (59-for-178) with 34 runs scored, nine doubles, three triples, three home runs, 26 RBI and team-best 24 stolen bases. White slugged .466 and posted a .405 on-base percentage while committing just one error in 86 chances (.988) in the field. He also made nine appearances (eight starts) on the mound and was 3-3 with a 2.60 earned run average, 50 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 52.0 innings, holding opposing batters to a .211 batting average.

White hit .368 (32-87) with runners on base, including .383 (23-60) with runners in scoring position, converted 70.6-percent (12-of-17) of his chances with a runner on third and less than two out and reached base 37.8% (14- 37) of his opportunities when leading off an inning. He posted a team-best 19 game hitting streak during the season, finished with 15 multiple hit games and four multi-RBI outings. In 25 NE-10 games, White hit .326 (31-95) with 18 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, a home run, 17 RBI and eight stolen bases. He earned NE-10 and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCBWA) East Region Pitcher and Player of the Week honors once each during the season and was a member of the Tino Martinez Award preseason "watch list."

White has started 88 of the 97 games he has played over his three year career at Stonehill. He is a .317 (105-for-331) career hitter with 47 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 46 RBI and 37 stolen bases. In 25 career appearances (19 starts) on the mound, White has posted a 9-6 record and 2.87 earned run average with one save, 110 strikeouts and just 26 walks over 140.1 innings. He earned All-Tournament team honors at the 2010 NCAA II East Regional in New Haven, Conn.

White's two baseball All-Region selections this spring give him four All-Region honors for the year after he collected both Daktronics and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-East second team honors this past fall. The second-team All-Northeast-10 striker led the Conference with nine goals and 22 points during the regular season, helping the Skyhawks qualify for their first postseason appearance since 1999. He is Stonehill's first men's soccer All-Region selection since 1994.

Stonehill (30-18, 13-12 NE-10) is ranked seventh in the most recent NCBWA East Regional poll and fourth in the final NEIBA Division II rankings. The Skyhawks earned a spot in the Northeast-10 tournament for the second straight season before being edged by Franklin Pierce, 3-2, in the first round.
