Soulier Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Milford, Conn., native earns weekly honor for first time 

EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman lefthanded pitcher Zach Soulier (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for baseball by the league office.

Soulier, who earns the weekly award for the first time, won his fourth decision of the season to help lead Stonehill to a key 7-3 win over the University of Massachusetts Lowell in a battle of regionally-ranked teams on Sunday. He allowed two runs, just one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts in the start. The win capped a 4-1 week for the Skyhawks, who have won nine of their last ten games.

Soulier has made seven appearances, three starts, for Stonehill in his first collegiate season. He is 4-0 with a 1.27 earned run average, 18 strikeouts and seven walks over 28.1 innings of work, with opposing batters hitting .271 against him. Soulier leads the Skyhawks with two pickoffs. He has made two starts in NE-10 play this season and is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA, seven strikeouts and three walks over 12.0 innings.

Stonehill (23-8, 8-3 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II poll, is ranked fourth in the NCBWA East Regional rankings as well as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division II poll. The Skyhawks are scheduled to conclude their two game NE-10 series with UMass Lowell on Wednesday at LeLacheur Park in Lowell at 3:30 p.m. Stonehill's next home game is Thursday against Southern New Hampshire University at Lou Gorman Field at 3:30 p.m.
