WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 19, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Regional poll, closed out its annual spring break trip the same way it began by notching a pair of victories at Alfond Stadium on the campus of Rollins College to run its win streak to four games. Stonehill opened the day with a 6-1 victory over Pace University, before edging Bentley University, 3-2, in a pair of non-conference contests today.

Junior Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) hit a combined 5-for-9 with five stolen bases, an RBI and two runs scored in the two wins for Stonehill and also earned the win in game one by allowing just one unearned run over 7.2 innings of work.

He also helped his own cause at the plate by going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. Senior Michael Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and sophomore Charles DeFrancesco (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) closed the game out by combining on 1.1 innings of shutout relief.

Junior Kyle Shepard (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored and sophomore James DeAlto (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) chipped in with two hits.

Pace struck first with an unearned run in the bottom of the first as junior Tyler Collins (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic) led off with a double, reaching third on an error on the play, before scoring on a ground out by freshman Steven Martinez (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac).

Stonehill got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth as McHugh and Shepard collected back-to-back singles with one out and then scored when a single to left by DeAlto was misplayed. The Skyhawks added a run in the fifth when White singled with two out and scored when Bruno followed with a double to left.

Stonehill broke the game open with three in the seventh. Bruno drove in senior Scott Hackett (Bangor, Maine/Bangor), who singled with one out, with a sacrifice fly. White, who singled, scored on a double steal with McHugh and then Shepard followed with an RBI single through the left side.

Senior righthander Bryan Galligan (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) earned his second win over Bentley this week (2-0 overall), yielding two earned runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over 7.2 innings. Michael White was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases for Stonehill, while Scott Hackett went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Bruno finished 1-for-3 with the game winning RBI.

Hackett set up Bruno's game winning hit with a leadoff triple. After White was retired, Bruno delivered the go-ahead run with his single. Bentley threatened with two out in the home half of the eighth as sophomore Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) singled to chase Galligan and senior Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) walked off Michael Von Stein before Shepard came in and got a pop out to short to end the rally. He retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the win.

Stonehill struck first with a two-run third as freshman William Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) reached on an error to lead off the frame and then scored on a two-out double to right by Hackett. White followed with a single to left to drive in Hackett.

Bentley knotted the score in the sixth as freshman Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) led off with a single, then stole second and third, coming home when the throw down to third got away. Hardy followed with a one-out home run to right.

Stonehill (11-5, 0-0 NE-10) scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday when it visits Assumption College for a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are scheduled to host Post University for a non-conference doubleheader at Lou Gorman Field on Friday, March 25, starting at 1 p.m.
