MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 26, 2011) – Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II poll and ranked fourth in the organization's East Regional poll, rallied for a split of two games on day two action of the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge at The Ripken Experience – Myrtle Beach today. Post 6, Stonehill 0

Junior righthander Steven Corbett (Woodlands, Conn.) fired a three hit shutout to lead Post to a 6-0 win over Stonehill in game one of the day. The Eagles used five walks over the first two innings to score five runs on just three hits to provide all the offense Corbett would need.

Corbett (1-0) scattered the three hits over nine innings for the win. Junior lefthander Matt Olsen (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) suffered the loss (0-1) for Stonehill as he allowed five earned runs on five walks and three hits in 1.2 innings of work. Sophomore lefthander Charlie DeFrancesco (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury), a transfer from Saint John's University, tossed 4.1 innings of four-hit shutout relief with six strikeouts and a walk. Freshman Zach Soulier (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) added three strong innings of relief as well, yielding an unearned run in the ninth on two hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Senior Bryan Galligan pitched eight strong innings in game two.

Senior Nick Nardacci (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) hit 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base for Stonehill. Junior Kyle Shepard (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) was also 1-for-3, while classmate Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) batted 1-for-4.

Stonehill 2, Felician 1 (10 innings)

Stonehill got revenge for a loss to Felician yesterday by posting a 2-1 victory in ten innings to cap Saturday's action. Sophomore Michael Zeiner (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) executed a bunt single on a safety squeeze with one out in the bottom of the tenth to score classmate James DeAlto (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) with the winning run.

DeAlto pinch ran for junior Rich McHugh (Pembroke, Mass./Thayer Academy), who led off the bottom of the tenth with a double. McHugh was 2-for-4 in the game, while Michael White finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. White single-handedly manufactured Stonehill's first run of the day. He led off the fourth with a single, stole second and then stole third, scoring when the Felician catcher's throw to third sailed down the leftfield line.

Junior lefthander Michael Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) picked up the win in relief (1-0) for Stonehill. He fired two innings of no-hit, shutout relief, walking two and striking out one. Senior righthander Bryan Galligan (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) was strong in the start for the Skyhawks, allowing just an earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts and a walk over eight innings.

Stonehill (2-2, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow when it closes out its Myrtle Beach trip against Chestnut Hill College at 9 a.m. The Skyhawks first home game isn't scheduled until Friday, March 25, when they host Post for a non-conference doubleheader at Lou Gorman Field starting at 1 p.m.
