New haven, Conn. - Freshman Matt Olsen (Winchester, Mass.) tossed eight innings of three-hit ball to help Stonehill earn a split of a Northeast-10 twinbill with host New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Frank Viera Field.

The Skyhawks, which dropped game one 12-1, got a masterful performance from Olsen, who struck out three and walked four to earn his second win of the season.

Stonehill took an early 2-0 lead in the third when Nick Nardacci (Glenmont, N.Y.) singled home a run and Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) drove in another with an RBI double.

A sacrifice fly from Scott Hackett (Bangor, Maine) in the fourth made the score 3-0 and Stonehill tacked on another - this one coming on the feet of Weber. After reaching on an error, Weber stole both second and third and then scored on another New Haven error.

With the lead in hand, Olsen cruised, yielding just singles in the third, fifth and eighth innings.

Sophomore Dan Corrigan (Portsmouth, R.I.) pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win for the Skyhawks.

In the first game, the Chargers scored runs in five of the first six innings to cruise to a 12-1 win. The big inning proved to be the fourth, as New Haven, already ahead 5-0, scored five runs on five hits highlighted by an RBI double from Jimmy Rivas.

Ken Bilodeau led the offensive attack for the Chargers, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, while starting pitcher Chris Smith went eight innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven.

Stonehill's lone run came when freshman Brett Hereth (Burrillville, R.I.) singled to lead off the ninth and eventually came around to score on a passed ball.

Andy Hillier (Hanover, Mass.) took the loss for the Skyhawks, going 3.1 innings while giving up eight runs (five earned).

Weber went 2-for-4 in game one, with Ryan Healey (Lynn, Mass.) and Mitch Davis (Bow, N.H.) collecting the other Stonehill hits.

Now 9-11 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 action, the Skyhawks will travel to Bentley for a 3:30 p.m. matchup on Tuesday.
