Maloney Pitches Ravens Past Stonehill

Easton, Mass. - Brockton native Brian Maloney twirled a seven inning, four-hit, 11-strikeout gem, helping Franklin Pierce take a 10-2 decision over Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.
The visitors, who won game one of the doubleheader, raced out to a 6-0 lead after five innings and never looked back.
Maloney, who had at least one strikeout in every inning he pitched, allowed only two runs and only walked one batter.
Most of Franklin Pierce's damage was done by its 1-4 hitters who had nine of the team's 14 hits and drove in seven of the 10 runs.
Scott Savastano was the catalyst, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Kevin Renaud went 2-for-4 from the clean up spot with 3 RBI, including a two-run single in the first.
Stonehill got both of its runs in the sixth when Rob Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn.) and Mitch Davis (Bow, N.H.) both singled to open the inning. A Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) single drove home a run and Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.) groundout scored the other to close the gap to 6-2.
But the Ravens responded with a single run in the seventh and a three more in the eighth, two of them coming on a Savastano single to right.
The Skyhawks mustered only four hits, two of them coming from Davis (2-for-4).
Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) took the loss for Stonehill, going five innings, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs. He did strikeout seven and didn't allow a walk.
The Skyhawks, now 12-8 overall, return to action on Tuesday when they host Merrimack.
