knock off Stonehill, this time grabbing a 7-5 win in 12 innings at Lou Gorman Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Skyhawks, who scored single runs in the first and third innings, were clinging to a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the ninth when reliever Alex Harrison (Walpole, Mass.) walked the leadoff batter and was replaced by shortstop Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.). He retired the first batter he faced before allowing back-to-back run scoring singles to two of the next three batters to even the score at 2-2.
The Bulldogs then scored three runs on two hits in the top of the tenth with Taylor Ferguson's two-run double to left center providing most of the damage.
Stonehill answered back in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI single from Dave Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) and a two-run, two-out single from Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn.) to knot the game 5-5.
After Alex McCormick (Weymouth, Mass.) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the top of the eleventh, Stonehill had a man on first and no outs in the bottom of the frame. Mitch Davis (Bow, N.H) singled to center and Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.), who reached base after drawing a walk, attempted to go from first to third but was gunned down by an excellent throw from Bulldog centerfielder Nick Campbell.
Bryant then capitalized, scoring two runs in the top of the twelfth, with Ferguson driving in the go-ahead run and Dylan Stone providing the insurance score with an RBI single of his own.
Both teams got terrific starting pitching, with freshman Shane Penzone (Hudson, Mass.) going 7.2 innings for Stonehill. He didn't allow a run and gave up only three hits. Danny Lozeau went seven innings for Bryant, giving up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
Freshman John Michael Ryan, who picked up his first career win against the Skyhawks on Tuesday, earned another win with two innings of one-hit relief.
Davis went 3-for-5 from his leadoff spot for Stonehill, which also got a 2-for-4, three RBI performance from Fradette. For Bryant, the combination of Ferguson and Campbell went 6-for-11 with four runs scored and four RBI.
Stonehill and the Bulldogs will wrap up their three game series on Thursday when the two teams face off at 3:30 p.m. on Lou Gorman Field.
