Easton, Mass. - Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.) broke out of a 1-for-18 slump with a ringing single down the right field line that scored Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn.), giving Stonehill (17-15) a 5-4 win over Assumption (12-22) in ten innings on Thursday afternoon on Lou Gorman Field.

The rally started, when with one out, Bruno and pinch hitter Ryan Healey (Lynn, Mass.) drew back-to-back walks off of Greyhound closer Tim Dupuis. Shepard then smacked a 1-2 offering to right for the game-winning hit.

Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up the win in relief, going 3.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out six. Mat Lindenmayer (Penfield, N.Y.) started the game for the Skyhawks and went the first 6.1 innings, yielding five hits and fours runs, only two of which were earned.

Stonehill got on the board in the first without recording a hit. Mitch Davis (Bow, N.H.) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice from Javier Guzman (San Juan, P.R.) moved Davis to third and he came home on a Dave Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) flyout to centerfield.

After Assumption scored in the top of the second to even the game at 1-1, Davis launched the first home run of his career, a two-run blast, over the left field wall. Bruno followed suit, banging the first pitch of the fourth inning out of the park, giving him his first career roundtripper and staking Stonehill to a 4-1 advantage.

Things stayed that way until the seventh, when the Greyhounds tied the game with three runs on two hits in the inning.

Both teams had several chances to break the game open early on, but neither could get the timely hit it needed, as both squads stranded 10 runners apiece.

Bruno was the only Skyhawk with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Davis was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Derek Migrants and Mike Baillargeon went 2-for-5 for Assumption, while Dupuis (2-2) took the loss.

Stonehill returns to the diamond on Saturday for a pair of games against Bentley at Lou Gorman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
