EASTON, Mass.-- Seniors Sean Patno (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Jerod Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y.) combined for three hits and drove in all five runs to lead UMass Lowell to a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Stonehill Monday afternoon at Gorman Field in a game called after seven innings due to rain.

Patno rapped out a pair of hits and gave the visiting River Hawks (8-9, 3-0 Northeast-10) a 2-0 third inning lead with a two-run single, and Edmondson provided key insurance for UMass Lowell in the seventh with a bases-clearing three-run triple to extend the lead to 5-0. Those runs proved crucial in the bottom of the frame when the host Skyhawks (6-9, 0-3 Northeast-10) plated a pair of runs on a bases-loaded walk to senior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) as well as an RBI single off the bat of senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.), but Stonehill left the bases loaded, and the contest was halted one batter into the top of the eighth because of the inclement weather.

Senior Joe Malzone (Leominster, Mass.) scattered four hits and overcame six walks with five strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the mound for UMass Lowell, while sophomore Pat Tobin (Centerville, Mass.) allowed five hits and three runs over 6 1/3 innings of work with four strikeouts in suffering the setback for Stonehill, as freshman Joe Goodwin (Norwood, Mass.) fanned one in 2/3 innings of relief work for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill hosts Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while UMass Lowell entertains Merrimack in a Northeast-10 match-up on Tuesday afternoon at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. at 3:00 p.m.
