LOWELL, Mass.-- Senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.), sophomore Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) and freshman Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.) each rapped out a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead Stonehill to a 7-5 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over UMass Lowell Wednesday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

The result ended a four-game slide for the visiting Skyhawks (7-10, 1-4 Northeast-10) and a four-game winning skein for the host River Hawks (9-10, 4-1 Northeast-10), who jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on a fielder's choice by senior Jerrod Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y.) and an RBI single by senior Steve Paddock (Milford, Mass.). Stonehill got a run back in the second on an RBI single by Shepard and took a 4-2 lead in the third on RBI singles by Weber and Shepard that sandwiched a sacrifice fly by Marston, but UMass Lowell evened matters in the bottom of the frame when senior Sean Patno (Chelmsford, Mass.) stole home and junior Anthony Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) rapped out an RBI single.

The Skyhawks took the lead for good in the fourth on Weber's fielder's choice that was followed by an RBI single by Marston, and after the River Hawks closed back to within one in the sixth with an unearned run, junior David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) provided an insurance tally for Stonehill by blasting his first home run of the season, a solo shot with two outs in the ninth, to account for the final score.

Senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) joined Marston, Weber and Shepard in recording two hits each as part of an 11-hit attack in the win for the Skyhawks, as freshman Joe Goodwin (Norwood, Mass.) picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound for the visitors with 4 1/3 innings of three-hit relief. Marston pitched the final two innings and picked up his first save of the season for Stonehill to gain a split of the two-game series.

Paddock and Santos each had a pair of hits as part of 10-hit effort in the setback for UMass Lowell, as senior Brian Tanguy (Weymouth, Mass.) allowed seven hits and six runs over three innings in falling to 1-3 on the mound for the River Hawks.

Stonehill heads to Waltham, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while UMass Lowell travels to North Andover, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to square off with Merrimack in a Northeast-10 contest that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
