EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Jim McLaughlin (Medway, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in a pair of runs to back a complete-game five-hit effort on the mound by junior Toby Nylin (Pleasant Valley, Conn.) as Southern Connecticut took the rubber game of a three-game Northeast-10 Conference baseball weekend set with an 8-2 victory over Stonehill Sunday afternoon at Gorman Field.

The visiting Owls (15-24, 11-10 Northeast-10) grabbed a 1-0 third inning lead on an RBI single by junior Billy Hite (Shelton, Conn.) and extended their edge to 4-0 with three unearned runs in the fifth, two of which scored on a single by McLaughlin. Southern Connecticut tacked on a run in the sixth on senior Nick Czekaj's (Branford, Conn.) RBI single and two more in the seventh on RBI singles off the bats of junior Nick Izzo (Cohoes, N.Y.) and sophomore Kevin Bowermen (West Haven, Conn.), and the host Skyhawks (15-20-1, 7-14-1 Northeast-10) got on the board with single runs in the seventh when junior David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) tripled and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) as well as the eighth when junior Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) singled and scored on a two-out throwing error. Senior Jose Ortiz's (Waterbury, Conn.) sacrifice fly in the ninth accounted for the final Owl run and closed out the scoring.

Bowermen and Czekaj each had two hits as part of a 15-hit attack for Southern Connecticut, as Nylin allowed one earned run and struck out seven to improve to 4-3 on the season for the Owls. Five different individuals collected hits in the setback for Stonehill, as senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.) allowed just one earned run and fanned a pair over 4 1/3 innings of work to fall to 2-1 on the mound for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill heads to Rindge, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon to begin a two-game Northeast-10 set with Franklin Pierce beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Southern Connecticut hosts Merrimack in a Northeast-10 outing on Monday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
