EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Tom Aldrich's (New Canaan, Conn.) RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Stonehill to a 6-5 nightcap victory and a split of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader with Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Gorman Field, as the visiting Golden Knights took the opener by an 8-3 final.

Junior Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) drew a one-out walk in the decisive frame for the host Skyhawks (10-15, 4-9 Northeast-10) and advanced to second on a two-out single off the bat of junior David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) to set up Aldrich's heroics, as he drove in a pair of runs in the triumph. Stonehill jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead in the second contest on RBI singles by senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Dave Migani (Amity, Conn.) along with an RBI groundout off the bat of senior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.), and the Skyhawks extended their edge to 4-0 in the sixth on an RBI single by freshman Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.). Saint Rose (5-15, 3-5 Northeast-10) evened matters with four in the seventh on a two-run single by freshman Ryan Price (Binghamton, N.Y.), an RBI single by senior Ben Paniccia (Schenectady, N.Y.) and an RBI groundout by freshman John Cole (Spring Valley, N.Y.), and the Golden Knights grabbed a 5-4 lead in the eighth when senior Gary Miller (Prospect, Conn.) stole home. Stonehill evened matters in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Aldrich, setting up his own heroics in the 10th inning.

Marston picked up the win in relief for the Skyhawks with 2 2/3 innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the season, as both he and freshman Rob Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn.) had two of the hosts' 11 hits in the nightcap. Senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) retired the first 11 batters and struck out five over seven innings of work for Stonehill, while Miller and freshman Derek Marshall (Malone, N.Y.) each had two hits in the second game setback for Saint Rose. Sophomore Brendon Malkowski (Guilderland, N.Y.), the third Golden Knight hurler of the nightcap, suffered the setback on the mound, as freshman Jake Kozar (Norwalk, Conn.) went the first seven for the visitors.

Stonehill grabbed a 1-0 second inning lead in the opener on a throwing error, but Saint Rose took the lead for good with a four-run outburst in the third on an error, a two-run single by freshman Jake Perez (North East, Pa.) and a run scoring double by sophomore Matt Frey (Clifton Park, N.Y.). The Golden Knights plated three more in the fifth on RBI singles by Marshall, Perez and Cole, and the two teams traded runs in the sixth, as Saint Rose received an RBI groundout from junior Brad Polcare (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and the Skyhawks an RBI double from Marston. Stonehill closed out the scoring in the ninth when Aldrich scored on Fradette's RBI groundout.

Frey had three of Saint Rose's 11 hits in the opening game triumph, as Perez finished with a pair of hits and three RBI while both Cole and Polcare each chipped in with two hits. Sophomore Emilio LaPietra (Troy, N.Y.) allowed four hits and one earned run over 6 2/3 innings of work to improve to 1-1 on the mound for the Golden Knights, while Marston had two of Stonehill's hits in the opening contest in back of senior Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.), who went the first 4 2/3 innings on the mound for the Skyhawks to fall to 1-3 on the spring.

Stonehill and Saint Rose close out their three-game Northeast-10 weekend set on Monday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
