MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Senior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) tossed a complete-game seven-hitter and struck out eight in the nightcap to lead Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader from Saint Anselm by scores of 9-2 in the opener and 7-4 in the second contest in games played Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The visiting Skyhawks (17-22-1, 9-16-1 Northeast-10) plated a pair of single runs in the third and sixth frames of the opener after spotting the host Hawks (8-26, 8-19 Northeast-10) an early 1-0 lead, as an RBI fielder's choice by junior Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) evened matters and a run-scoring single off the bat of sophomore Dave Migani (Amity, Conn.) provided the go-ahead run. Stonehill then broke things open with seven runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single by senior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) and Vaughn's two-run double that sandwiched an RBI single by senior Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.), a Migani sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk to junior David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.).

Marston and Vaughn each had two of the Skyhawks' 10 hits in the opener, as junior Mat Lindenmayer (Penfield, N.Y.) allowed six hits and struck out a pair over eight innings of work to improve to 5-2 on the mound for Stonehill. Senior John Welch (Medford, Mass.) collected a pair of hits, including his seventh home run of the spring, in the first game setback for Saint Anselm, as junior Nick Barese (Braintree, Mass.) took the loss on th emound for the Hawks.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.) gave the Skyhawks a 1-0 first inning lead in the nightcap, and Stonehill extended its lead to 3-0 in the sixth on Vigliotti's RBI single and a Fradette sacrifice fly. The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the frame on Welch's RBI single, but single runs in the seventh and eighth on an RBI double by freshman Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.) and a run-scoring single off the bat of sophomore Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) extended Stonehill's lead to 5-1. Saint Anselm closed its deficit to one with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the eighth on Welch's second RBI single of the day that was sandwiched by a run-scoring double off the bat of senior Wayne MacKay (Melrose, Mass.) and an RBI groundout by sophomore Alex Aguilar (Newbury, Mass.), but the Skyhawks plated a pair of insurance runs in the ninth on Pardo's two-run single to account for the final score.

Pardo and Weber each had two hits in the second game triumph for Stonehill to back Vaughn's complete game-effort on the mound that saw him even his mark at 2-2 on the season, while Welch and freshman Evan Kelleher (Haverhill, Mass.) each had two hits in the nightcap setback for Saint Anselm, with senior Jack Reilly (Londonderry, N.H.) recording all but the final out in striking out six on the mound for the Hawks.

Stonehill and Saint Anselm close out their three-game Northeast-10 weekend set on Sunday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
