NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-- Senior Blake Marston's (Concord, N.H.) two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Stonehill to a 3-1 nightcap victory and a split of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader with Merrimack on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field. The host Warriors took the opener by a 6-0 final behind a complete-game three-hit effort on the mound by junior Josh Sohn (West Simsbury, Conn.).

The visiting Skyhawks (8-13, 2-7 Northeast-10) forged the 1-1 nightcap tie on a pinch-hit RBI single by senior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.) in the eighth to set up Marston's heroics, as Stonehill took advantage of an error, a hit batsman and a balk to plate the winning runs. Merrimack (5-11, 2-3 Northeast-10) had taken a 1-0 edge in its first at-bat of the second contest on an RBI single by junior Ryan Shepard (Andover, Mass.), and that score held up into the late innings before the Skyhawk comeback.

Senior Chris Herrmann (Chelmsford, Mass.) went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for Stonehill, as he scattered seven hits and struck out eight to improve to 1-2 on the season. Sophomore Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) collected two of the Skyhawks' six hits in the nightcap, while Shepard had a pair of safeties in the second contest for the Warriors. Senior Eric Malinowski (Newington, Conn.) took the loss in relief on the mound for Merrimack, allowing both unearned runs in the ninth, as freshman Dylan Ellis (Gloucester, Mass.) had allowed three hits and struck out 10 over the first six innings of work for the hosts.

Sophomore Bob McCarthy (Chelmsford, Mass.) had two of Merrimack's six hits in the opening game win, as he was joined by Shepard, sophomores Jeff Bercume (Leicester, Mass.) and Mike Andre (Medford, Mass.) as well as freshman Rory Gentile (Gloucester, Mass.) in driving in runs for the Warriors. Sohn scattered three hits and fanned two to pick up his first win of the hosts, as sophomore Matt Orr (Wilton, Conn.) collected two of those safeties for Stonehill. Sophomore Pat Tobin (Centerville, Mass.) allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out three in suffering his second setback of the season on the mound in the first contest for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill heads to Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on American International in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Merrimack heads to Manchester, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 match-up at 3:00 p.m.
