EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Pat McKenna (Orange, Conn.) collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead Bryant to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader of Stonehill by scores of 2-1 in the opener and 4-0 in the nightcap Saturday afternoon at Gorman Field.

The visiting Bulldogs (9-9, 2-0 Northeast-10) pushed across a run in the top of the ninth to snap a 1-1 deadlock in the opener, as junior Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) laced a one-out double and was pinch run for by junior Grant Tonelli (Greenwood, Calif.), who advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error. The host Skyhawks (6-8, 0-2 Northeast-10) had the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the frame but did not score after forging the 1-1 tie in the third on an RBI single by freshman Brendan Shepard (Boxford, Mass.) after Bryant had taken a 1-0 second inning lead on McKenna's RBI single. Freshman Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate win in relief for the Bulldogs after junior Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.) fanned seven over the first seven innings of action, and junior Adam Vuolo (Walpole, Mass.) recorded his fourth save despite allowing a hit and a hit by pitch in the ninth inning. Shepard recorded three hits in the opening game setback for Stonehill, as sophomore Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) was a tough-luck loser on the mound for the Skyhawks in allowing six hits and one earned run while fanning six in going the distance.

Bryant jumped out to 1-0 second inning lead in the nightcap on an RBI single by junior Jason Alexander (Simsbury, Conn.) and added another tally in the third on a sacrifice fly by freshman T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.), and the Bulldogs added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings on a McKenna triple and an RBI single off the bat of freshman Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) to close out the scoring.

Freshman Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) paced an 11-hit attack with three hits in the nightcap triumph for the Bulldogs, who also received a pair of hits from McKenna, Alexander and Ferguson. Sophomore Kevin Cobb (Acton, Mass.) allowed four hits and fanned six over the first six innings to improve to 2-0 on the mound for Bryant, while Polvani retired all nine batters he faced over the final three innings with four strikeouts to record his first collegiate save.

Sophomore Nate Weber (Hanson, Mass.) collected two of Stonehill's four hits in the second game setback, as junior Mat Lindenmayer (Penfield, N.Y.) allowed nine hits and four runs over 7 1/3 innings with four strikeouts to fall to 2-1 on the mound for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill and Bryant close out their three-game Northeast-10 weekend set on Sunday afternoon in Smithfield, R.I., as the start time for the contest has been pushed back to 3:00 p.m.
