May 22, 2006

Stonehill College senior right hander Billy Sittig was named over the weekend to the 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Northeast Regional first-team squad for his efforts on the diamond this spring. Sittig, who earns All-Regional honors for the third time in his career, is set to make his third appearance in the New England Intercollegiate All-Star Game on Sunday, May 28th at Fenway Park for the College Division All-Stars.

A native of West Roxbury, Mass. and a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School, Sittig compiled an overall mark of 7-3 on the spring with a 2.23 earned run average for Head Coach Patrick Boen's Skyhawks. Sittig, who set school career records for victories (23) and strikeouts (286), earned first team all-Northeast-10 Conference honors as well after striking out 75 in 93 innings of work while also picking up a save along the way, as he led Stonehill in both games started (11) and complete games (7). Sittig, who was named as the 2006 co-recipient of Stonehill's Father William Gartland Award as the top male student-athlete in the senior class, held opponents to a .225 batting average this season and posted a combined 16-5 mark over the last two springs, including a 9-2 slate during his junior campaign of 2005 that saw him become the second All-America performer in school history.

Sittig will compete in his third New England Intercollegiate All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon, as the contest will begin immediately following the Boston Red Sox-Tampa Bay Devil Rays game that will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. EDT. Sittig earned the win for the College Division squad in relief as a freshman and started last year's contest.

Stonehill finished the year at 28-17 overall, including a 22-8 slate in Northeast-10 play that was good for second place in the final conference regular season standings. The Skyhawks earned a spot in the Northeast-10 "final four" for the eighth time in nine seasons and were ranked in the NCAA Northeast Regional poll throughout the spring.
