RINDGE, N.H.-- Senior Sean Lawrence's (New Rochelle, N.Y.) two-run single in the top of the 10th snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Stonehill to a 3-1 nightcap victory over 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce in a split of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Dr. Pappas Field. The host Ravens took the opener by an 8-2 final.

Sophomore Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) opened the top of the 10th of the nightcap with a single for the visiting Skyhawks (10-10, 6-2 Northeast-10) and advanced to second when junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) drew a walk. After junior Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) sacrificed both runners along, junior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.) drew a one-out walk that set up Lawrence's game-winning safety to left field. Franklin Pierce (17-6, 2-2 Northeast-10) had runners on the corners with two outs, but senior Joe Breen (Swampscott, Mass.) came on to record the final out on a strikeout and pick up the save in relief of senior Brian Nelson (Greenville, R.I.), who held the Ravens scoreless after the hosts picked up a run in the bottom of the first in scattering eight hits and fanning two in recording the victory on the mound for Stonehill.

Franklin Pierce took that 1-0 first inning lead when junior Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine) tripled and scored on an RBI groundout by senior Mike Chambers (Londonderry, N.H.), but Stonehill evened matters in the sixth when Pardo singled and advanced to third on a double by senior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.), setting up an intentional walk to Vigliotti that backfired when Lawrence singled through the left side to tie the score and set up his heroics in extra innings.

Lawrence had three hits in driving in all three Stonehill runs in the triumph, as Lyons chipped in with a pair of hits as well for the Skyhawks in the nightcap victory. Olson and senior Elliott Shea (Jaffrey, N.H.) each had two hits in the second game setback for Franklin Pierce, as junior Eric Grabowski (Worcester, Mass.) allowed three hits and two runs in two relief innings for the Ravens to take the setback on the mound after senior Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H.) had allowed five hits and a run while striking out nine over the first eight innings of work. The win enabled Stonehill to snap Franklin Pierce's 13-game winning streak in the series between the two schools that dated back to April 2002.

Olson and Shea combined for five hits, five RBI and five runs scored in Franklin Pierce's 8-2 opening game triumph, as after Stonehill had taken a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat on a Vigliotti RBI single, Shea belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to give the Ravens the lead for good. Freshman Scott Savastano's (Plymouth, Mass.) sacrifice fly in the fourth extended the hosts' edge to 3-1, and after an RBI single off the bat of junior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) enabled the Skyhawks to close to within 3-2 in the fifth, Franklin Pierce tallied four times in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Olson's two-run homer as well as a two-run single off the bat of junior Kim Hart (Gorham, Maine). The Ravens closed out the scoring in the sixth on a Shea RBI single, as Hart added a pair of hits and two RBI for the winners in their opening game victory.

Sophomore Shane Presutti (Southbridge, Mass.) picked up the win on the mound for Franklin Pierce, scattering seven hits and striking out 11 to improve to 4-0 on the season. Seven different players had hits in the opening game setback for Stonehill, as senior All-America Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) suffered just his third defeat in his last 15 decisions over the last two seasons, allowing eight hits and six earned runs while striking out three over seven innings.

Stonehill and Franklin Pierce meet in the rubber game of the Northeast-10 weekend set on Sunday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
