SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Junior Tom Aldrich (New Canaan, Conn.) had three hits and drove in a pair of runs, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 16th inning of the opener, to lift Stonehill to a "sweep" of a pair of Northeast-10 Conference baseball contests from American International on Sunday afternoon by scores of 4-3 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap at AIC Park.

Darkness played a role in both outings, as the two teams played six innings to finish a game suspended after 10 innings on Saturday in Easton due to darkness that was tied at 3-3. The visiting Skyhawks (8-8, 4-0 Northeast-10) pushed across the decisive run in the bottom of the 16th of the opener on back-to-back singles by seniors Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.), a passed ball and an intentional walk that led by Aldrich's game-winning single.

Junior Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) had three hits in the extra inning affair for Stonehill, which also received two hits each from Aldrich, Lawrence and Piscatelli. Senior Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) came out of the bullpen to pick up the win in relief for the Skyhawks, as he fanned four over 3 1/3 innings of work to close to within three strikeouts of tying the school career mark of 237 while improving to 3-0 in the process. Senior Brian Nelson (Greenville, R.I.) allowed five hits and struck out 10 in his first start of the year for Stonehill over the first eight innings of action.

Senior Neal Quesnel (South Hadley, Mass.), junior Tyler Cooke (Brattleboro, Vt.) and sophomore Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) each had three hits in the extra inning contest for the host Yellow Jackets (4-7, 1-4 Northeast-10), as senior Jon Ferry (Thorndike, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for AIC in allowing a run on five hits in five-plus innings of relief of junior Bryan Soltis (Plantsville, Conn.) who allowed just one earned run over 10 innings of work.

Stonehill snapped a 1-1 seventh inning tie with a pair of unearned runs in that frame in the nightcap, and the Skyhawks added an insurance tally in the eighth on a triple by junior Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.) that was followed by a Lawrence RBI single. Sophomore Andy Hillier (Hanover, Mass.) took care of the rest on the mound for Stonehill, allowing just four hits and fanning seven in the complete-game effort in a contest that was called after eight innings due to darkness.

Junior Brett Cooley (Somers, Conn.) went the distance on the mound in the second game for American International, allowing one earned run and fanning two, as four different Yellow Jackets picked up hits off Hillier.

Stonehill hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while American International hosts Bridgeport in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at AIC Park that also begins at 3:00 p.m.
