WAREHAM, Mass.-- Senior Jean-Francois DuFour’s (Beauharnois, Que.) three-run homer in the sixth helped propel Saint Rose to a 6-2 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Stonehill Sunday afternoon at Spillane Field and salvage the final game of a three-game league weekend set between the squads.

The visiting Golden Knights (12-14, 3-5 Northeast-10) trailed 2-0 heading into the middle innings before slicing their deficit in half in the top of the fifth on an infield RBI single by sophomore Gary Miller (Prospect, Conn.). DuFour then gave Saint Rose the lead for good in the sixth with his fifth round-tripper of the season, a three-run shot to left, and the Golden Knights added single runs in the seventh and eighth frames to complete their scoring on a second Miller RBI single as well as a run-scoring single off the bat of senior Joe Mariano (Troy, N.Y.).

The host Chieftains (14-8, 8-4 Northeast-10) took a 2-0 advantage in the second on a two-run double by junior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.), but Stonehill was limited to three hits over the next six innings of work by Saint Rose freshman Jeremiah St. Louis (Tupper Lake, N.Y.), who settled down to overcome five walks in allowing just five hits and fanning 11 over eight innings of work to improve to 5-0 on the season, as he threw 119 pitches on the afternoon.

Miller, Mariano, senior Anthony DiTroia (Queens, N.Y.) and juniors Nick Panza (Colonie, N.Y.) and John Gawinski (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) each collected two hits as part of an 11-hit Saint Rose attack, while Lawrence rapped out two of Stonehill’s six hits on the afternoon, as the Chieftains saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Sophomore Nick SantaBarbara (Middleton, Mass.) suffered his first loss in five decisions on the mound this spring for Stonehill, as he allowed seven hits and four runs over six innings while striking out three.

Stonehill hosts Pace in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday evening at Spillane Field beginning at 6:30 p.m., while Saint Rose travels to Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for a Northeast-10 contest with American International that begins at 3:30 p.m.
