BROCKTON, Mass.-- Senior Craig Audette (Raynham, Mass.) and sophomore Blake Marston (Concord, N.H.) combined for five hits and five RBI to lead Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader from Saint Anselm by scores of 7-1 in the opener and 5-1 in the nightcap in games played Saturday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.

The host Chieftains (20-15, 13-10 Northeast-10) reached the 20-win plateau for the eighth straight season under Head Coach Patrick Boen in the process, as Stonehill received solid starting pitching efforts as well from juniors Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Brian Nelson (Greenville, R.I.) in sweeping the twinbill. Junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) gave the hosts a 1-0 first inning lead in the opener with an RBI single, and the Chieftains plated a pair of runs each in both the fifth and sixth frames, three of which came on a pair of singles by Audette and the fourth courtesy of a steal of home by sophomore Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.). Stonehill added single runs in the seventh and eighth on RBI singles by juniors T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) and Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and the visiting Hawks (14-18, 10-13 Northeast-10) broke up the shutout in the ninth with an unearned run on a throwing error.

Audette collected three of Stonehill’s 10 hits in the opener to go with his three RBI, while Lawrence added a pair of hits for the Chieftains to back Sittig’s effort on the mound, as he allowed four hits and struck out nine over seven innings of work to improve to 8-1 on the season while lowering his earned run average to 1.62 on the spring. Sophomore Ryan Williams (Lynnfield, Mass.) fell to 3-4 on the mound for Saint Anselm, as he allowed nine hits and just two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings while fanning eight, as six different Hawks collected hits in the opener.

Stonehill jumped out to a 3-0 second inning lead in the nightcap on an RBI groundout by senior Tim Flynn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) in the first and an RBI single by Marston in the second, as he later scored on a stolen base and two throwing errors. Saint Anselm plated their lone run in the third on an RBI double by freshman Shane Masotta (Woburn, Mass.), but the Chieftains answered back in the bottom of the frame when Lyons scored on a wild pitch. The hosts closed out the scoring in the sixth on Marston’s second RBI single of the day, as he collected two of Stonehill’s five hits in the nightcap.

Nelson allowed just three hits and one run while fanning four in six innings of work on the mound for Stonehill to even his record at 2-2 on the spring, while junior Joe Breen (Swampscott, Mass.) pitched three scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn his first save for the Chieftains. Freshman Adam Hussey (Danvers, Mass.) went 2-for-3 in the nightcap setback for Saint Anselm, as senior John Lenkowski (Northampton, Mass.) allowed four hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work to fall to 1-4 on the mound for the Hawks.

Stonehill and Saint Anselm wrap up their Northeast-10 weekend set on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Park in Manchester, N.H. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
