MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Senior Craig Audette (Raynham, Mass.) went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs to back a complete-game effort on the mound by fellow senior Billy McLane (Plymouth, N.H.) as Stonehill completed a three-game sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball weekend set of Saint Anselm with a 9-3 league victory Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The visiting Chieftains (21-15, 14-10 Northeast-10) used single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead, as Audette’s RBI single gave Stonehill an early 1-0 edge before freshman David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) belted his first collegiate home run in his hometown to extend the margin to two runs. The host Hawks (14-19, 10-14 Northeast-10) evened matters in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles by off the bats of senior Josh Skowyra (Brimfield, Mass.) and junior Anthony Modoono (Lexington, Mass.), but the Chieftains took the lead for good in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by junior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and an RBI single by junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) for a 4-2 advantage. Stonehill extended its lead to 8-2 with a four-run eighth inning on RBI singles by Audette, senior Tim Flynn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) as well as a Lyons sacrifice fly, and after Saint Anselm closed to within 8-3 in the bottom of the frame on Skowyra’s second RBI single of the afternoon, Fradette drove in his second run with an RBI single in the ninth to close out the Chieftain scoring.

Fradette, Lyons, Flynn and Vaughn each had two hits as part of a 14-hit Stonehill attack, as McLane scattered six hits and struck out five to improve to 6-3 on the mound for the Chieftains. Skowyra and senior Keith Beauregard (Leominster, Mass.) each had two hits in the setback for Saint Anselm, as senior Ryan Fecteau (Gilmanton, N.H.) allowed 10 hits and seven runs while fanning six in 7 1/3 innings to fall to 4-4 for the Hawks.

Stonehill travels to Smithfield, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Bryant in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Saint Anselm meets crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 contest on Tuesday afternoon in Manchester, N.H. beginning at 3:30 p.m.
