LOWELL, Mass.– Sophomores Vinny Pennell (Spencer, Mass.) and Kim Hart (Gorham, Maine) each drove in a pair of runs as second-seeded Franklin Pierce posted a 7-3 victory over third-seeded Stonehill in the first game of the double elimination portion of the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championships Friday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

The Ravens (28-12) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first on a pair of RBI singles by Pennell and junior Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H.), but the Chieftains (25-19) stormed back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third on a two-run single by senior Craig Audette (Raynham, Mass.) that was followed by an RBI lineout off the bat of junior Sean Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.). Franklin Pierce regained the lead in the bottom of the frame on a pair of sacrifice flies by Pennell and Hart as well as a wild pitch, and the Ravens tacked on a pair of insurance tallies in the fifth on an RBI double by Hart that was followed by a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman Matt Anderson (Medford, Mass.) that closed out the scoring.

Duplissie went 3-for-3 in the triumph for Franklin Pierce, while Hart and Anderson eachg added a pair of hits as part of a 13-hit Raven attack that provided senior Bryan Borowski (Clarksburg, Mass.) with his seventh victory in eight decisions on the mound, as Borowski allowed five hits and three runs while fanning three over seven innings of work. Sophomore Eric Grabowski (Worcester, Mass.) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth to record the final five outs to pick up his first save of the year for Franklin Pierce.

Junior T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Pardo (Hanover, Mass.) each recorded two hits as part of a seven-hit Stonehill attack on the afternoon, as senior Billy McLane (Plymouth, N.H.) allowed seven hits and four earned runs over three innings while striking out a pair to fall to 6-5 on the mound for the Chieftains.

Stonehill will take on top-seeded Southern Connecticut in the first elimination game of the 2005 Northeast-10 Baseball Championships on Saturday morning at LeLacheur Park beginning at 11:00 a.m., as the Owls dropped a 1-0 decision to fourth-seeded and host UMass Lowell in the other opening contest of the double elimination format.
