SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Junior Chris Brown (Norwalk, Conn.) went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to back eight solid innings on the mound by senior Stephen Sloan (Franklin, Mass.) as Bryant posted a 9-1 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over Stonehill Friday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

The host Bulldogs (19-16, 13-10 Northeast-10) snapped a 1-1 sixth inning tie with a pair of runs, including junior Adam Rourke’s (Rowley, Mass.) first home run of the season, and Bryant extended its advantage to 7-1 in the seventh with four more tallies that came on RBI singles by Brown, Rourke, senior Mickey Ryan (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Neil (Cambridge, Mass.). The hosts closed out the scoring on a two-run single by Brown in the eighth to claim their second straight triumph.

Junior Paul Novakowski (Prospect, Conn.) joined Brown with three hits as part of a 14-hit Bryant attack, as Neil joined Rourke in collecting a pair of hits as well. Sloan allowed seven hits and a run while fanning six over his eight inning stint for the Bulldogs on the mound to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Freshman Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) gave the visiting Chieftains (18-15, 11-10 Northeast-10) a 1-0 fourth inning lead with an RBI single, but that proved to be the lone run of the day for Stonehill, which received two hits each from Halloran, juniors Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) and T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.) as well as freshman David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.).

Senior Matt Mitchell (West Roxbury, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for the visitors, allowing nine hits and eight runs in relief of freshman Mat Lindenmayer (Penfield, N.Y.), who allowed five hits and an unearned run over five innings of work while fanning three in his first collegiate start.

Stonehill hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Saturday morning at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass. beginning at 10:00 a.m., while Bryant hosts Adelphi in a non-league twinbill on Sunday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex beginning at Noon.
