SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Junior Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) tossed a complete-game seven-hitter and struck out 10 to pick up his seventh victory of the season on the mound in leading Stonehill to a 5-3 Northeast-10 Conference baseball triumph over Bryant Monday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

After allowing three runs and four hits in the first inning of action, Sittig settled down to allow only four hits and fan nine over the final eight innings of work for the visiting Chieftains (18-12, 11-7 Northeast-10) in improving to 7-1 overall with a 1.83 earned run average on the spring. Stonehill forged a 3-3 tie in the fourth on an RBI double by senior Tim Flynn (Clifton Park, N.Y.), this week’s Northeast-10 Co-Player of the Week, that was followed by a two-run double off the bat of junior T.J. Piscatelli (Norfolk, Mass.). Junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) gave the Chieftains the lead for good with an RBI single in the fifth and tacked on an insurance tally with a run-scoring single in the seventh to close out the scoring for Stonehill, which has won four of its last five outings.

Lyons and Piscatelli each had two hits and drove in two runs in the win for the Chieftains, while junior Paul Novakowski (Prospect, Conn.) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in a run in the setback for the host Bulldogs (17-15, 11-9 Northeast-10), who also received an RBI single in their first at-bat from junior Nick Tucarella (Salem, N.H.).

Junior David Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) allowed six hits and four runs while striking out nine in six innings of work to fall to 2-2 on the mound for Bryant, which dropped its fourth straight contest in the setback.

Stonehill hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday evening at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Bryant travels to North Andover, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 contest that begins at 3:30 p.m.
