SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Junior T.J. Piscatelli’s (Norfolk, Mass.) RBI double in the 11th inning plated the decisive run as Stonehill rallied from a two-run ninth inning deficit to post a 5-4 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over American International Thursday afternoon at AIC Park.

After sophomore Max Vigliotti (Stamford, Conn.) led off the top of the 11th with a triple, Piscatelli’s two-bagger provided the difference for the visiting Chieftains (12-7, 6-3 Northeast-10), who claimed their fifth victory in the last six outings. The host Yellow Jackets (4-13, 0-8 Northeast-10) took an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third frames on an RBI triple by freshman David Dest (Orange, Conn.) and an RBI groundout by senior Eric Boissy (Enfield, Conn.), and the two teams exchanged runs in the sixth, as senior Tim Flynn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) belted his first homer of the spring for Stonehill before American International answered back in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single off the bat of freshman Greg Genovese (Hingham, Mass.) to take a 3-1 cushion into the late innings.

The Chieftains rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead, as a Flynn RBI double and a sacrifice fly by freshman Ryan Halloran (Tyngsboro, Mass.) evened matters at 3-3 before a two-out RBI single off the bat of sophomore Matt Vaughn (Bow, N.H.) gave Stonehill a one-run cushion. The Yellow Jackets forced extra innings in the bottom of the frame when sophomore Dominic Meattey (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) scored on a two-out wild pitch, setting up Piscatelli’s heroics for Stonehill in the 11th inning.

Flynn and junior Coley Lyons (West Roxbury, Mass.) each had three hits as part of a 10-hit Stonehill attack on the afternoon, as junior Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) improved to 5-0 on the mound for the Chieftains with three innings of relief work that featured three strikeouts. Junior Dean Chiusano (Clifton Park, N.Y.) went the first six for the visitors on the mound in allowing seven hits and three runs while fanning five. Boissy had three of American International’s nine hits on the day, as freshman Alex Zancan (Danbury, Conn.) took the loss on the mound for the Yellow Jackets in relief of sophomore Bryan Soltis (Plantsville, Conn.), who allowed six hits and three runs in eight innings.

Stonehill travels to Albany, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 doubleheader with Saint Rose that begins at Noon, while American International will be idle until Monday afternoon when the Yellow Jackets host Pace in a Northeast-10 outing at AIC Park beginning at 3:30 p.m.
