Athletic Department to honor three National Championship winning teams

EASTON, Mass. (September 12, 2011) - Stonehill College is proud to announce the induction of three National Championship winning teams into its Athletic Hall of Fame during a “Night of Champions” on Friday, September 23, as part of Alumni Weekend.

The Stonehill Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2011 will be the 2003 Equestrian Team which captured the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunter Seat/Collegiate Cup National Championship and the 2003 and 2005 NCAA Division II National Champion women’s lacrosse teams.

The event at Pettit Atrium inside the Shields Science Center, on the Stonehill campus, on Friday, September 23, will begin with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7:30 p.m. There are a limited tickets ($40 per ticket) still available and should be purchased by Friday, September 17, with Colleen Ford in the Department of Athletics at (508) 565-1384.

"We are looking forward to honoring our three National Championship teams on one night for a ‘Night of Champions’," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Brendan Sullivan. "These teams amazed us with their accomplishments and commitment to Stonehill athletics and now it is our time to honor the student-athletes, coaches and staff members for their work which helped to advance the tradition of athletic excellence here at Stonehill."

Friday's Hall of Fame induction ceremony kicks off a busy Alumni Weekend at Stonehill. On Saturday, the football team hosts American International College at 1 p.m., while women’s soccer hosts Southern Connecticut State University at noon. On Sunday, women’s tennis plays Franklin Pierce University at 11 a.m., with field hockey hosting Lindenwood University at 1 p.m., and men’s tennis facing Franklin Pierce at 2 p.m.
