Steve Fitzgerald joined the athletics department in 2008 and has been elevated to the position of Deputy Director of Athletics in the 2022 as the Skyhawks get set to make their transition to NCAA Division I athletics starting in July, 2022. Previously, Fitzgerald served in the role of Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations.

Fitzgerald has expanded his leadership role in directing the day-to-day management of the athletic department and provide oversight of key internal areas including expense and revenue budgeting, scheduling, team operations, facilities, and serve as a key contact for the NCAA and Northeast Conference.

Fitzgerald manages day-to-day aspects of the athletic department’s budget, equipment, athletic facilities, home events, and camps/clinics, while also providing administrative oversight for multiple varsity programs. He is also a member of the department's Senior Management team, has been a chair and served on hiring search committees for a variety of positions for the department, and served as a Championship Manager for the NCAA Division II Field Hockey National Championship. Fitzgerald has served on multiple committees throughout his Stonehill career, including presently on the Human Resource Advisory Committee, Community Standards Discipline Board, and as a S.H.A.R.E. Advisor. 

Fitzgerald has been apart of the department that has been recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference as the best overall athletic program four times (2010, 2011, 2012, 2015). He was the lead athletic department team member that was tasked with the development and design of the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex enhancing the building with athletic training rooms, locker rooms, and a varsity weight room. 

From 2012-15, Fitzgerald served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Operations, while he also was an Assistant Track and Field Coach from 2010-15, where he designed and oversaw all training programs for sprinters and relay teams. Fitzgerald oversaw the training of 10 All-Americans, numerous All-New England and All-Conference award winners, and school record holders. 

Prior, Fitzgerald was the Coordinator of Camps/Clinic from 2009-12 and the Football Operations Manager from 2008-12. Fitzgerald began his collegiate administration positioning at the Northeast-10 Conference, where he was the Assistant to the Commissioner from 2007-08. He reviewed all conference schedule change requests, served as the primary media contact for multiple sports, acted as the liaison for all conference television and webcast productions. Fitzgerald also served as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference Constitution and Bylaw Review Committee. 

A 2005 graduate of Boston College, Fitzgerald earned his undergraduate degree in sociology with a minor in faith, peace, and justice. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Endicott College’s Van Loan School of Graduate Studies in 2012 in Athletic Administration.
