A 1975 graduate, George J. Zahringer III was an outstanding golfer. In 1974, he was selected Stonehill’s Junior Athlete of the Year. In 1975, George was the Massachusetts Inter-Collegiate Golf Champion. A member of the golf team for four years, he was captain as a senior. He also played three years of varsity soccer. A very active and skilled golfer, George won the New York Metropolitan Golf Association open championship in 1985. He was the MGA Amateur Champion in 1982, and 1984-87. In 1984, George won the New York State G.A. Amateur title. He was Long Island Amateur Champion in 1980 and 1982. He was the Westchester Amateur Champion in 1979 and the Havemeyer Invitational Champion in 1983 and 84. George also was the Hochester Memorial Champion from 1987-90 and the Walter J. Travis Memorial Champion in 1983 and ’84. He was also the USGA Mid-Amateur Quarterfinalist in 1986 and ’87. George also earned MGA Amateur Player of the Year in 1979, ’80, ’82, ’84, ’86, and ’87.
