Bob Reitz finished his brilliant men’s
basketball career with 2,218 points, second on the all-time scoring
list behind 1989 inductee Michael Allocco (2,399 points). Bob still
holds the record for most points in a season. He scored 729 as a
junior, which helped him earn first-team All-America honors. As a
senior, Bob was second-team All America and was a fifth round NBA
draft pick by the Boston Celtics. Reitz also holds the Stonehill
standard for leading his team in scoring 29 consecutive games. He
also scored 30 or more points in a game 14 times. He was the
Northeast-7 Conference Tournament most valuable player as a junior
when the Chieftains won their second straight conference title. His
team won 22 straight NE-7 games, still a record.
During his career, Stonehill posted
a 72-44 record, which included two conference titles and three NCAA
post season tournament berths. He was selected conference player of
the year as a junior. A 52 percent career shooter, Bob’s No.
25 jersey was retired, joining fellow Hall of Fame members
Mike Allocco and Bill Zolga. Bob
lives in Providence, R.I. with his wife, Denise and their
child.
