A 1983 Stonehill graduate, Sharon Donovan led the
Lady Chieftains softball team to three consecutive state
championships, compiling a four-year team record of 68-21. She hit
.351 in her career, and posted a 10-10 pitching record with a
stingy 2.53 earned run average. Sharon also played women’s
basketball for two years before a knee injury restricted her to
softball. Sharon was honored by being selected Converse First-Team
All-American Division II in her junior year. In 1981, Sharon
pitched a no-hitter against the Bentley Falcons. In that same
spring, Sharon hurled a four-hitter to beat Holy Cross for the
State Championship. She also hit the game-winning single in the
seventh inning. As a freshman, Sharon hit back-to-back grand slams
in the same inning against Curry College. She hit a career-high
.463 during her freshman year.
Sharon, who was a business major,
is an assistant vice president for State Street Bank of Boston.
Sharon, who lives in her native Abington, was pleased with her
selection to the Hall of Fame. She is the second woman athlete to
be chosen. “The bank where I’m employed has a lot of
respect for Stonehill academics. I agree. Stonehill gave me the
opportunity to get an excellent education. We had a nice balance
between academics and athletics,” said Sharon.
