Brockton High's outstanding football coach, Armond C. Colombo graduated from Brockton High School in 1949.  He graduated from Stonehill College in 1955 as a Liberal Arts major.  Armond began his coaching and teaching career at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree in the fall of 1955.  He was head coach for 20 of Brockton's glory years.  His teams won five Catholic Conference titles at Archbishop Williams along with three Class D Championships.  He came to Brockton in 1969, posting a 3-6 record the first year and a 9-0 record the following fall.  The Boxers went to nine Super Bowls, winning six.  BHS was also Class A Champion in 1970.  Colombo's teams won 15 Suburban League titles in 20 years. including 10 straight.  He has been selected Boston Globe Division One Coach of the Year four times.   In 29 years, Colombo's teams have posted 220 wins against 48 defeats and four ties.  He coached nine undefeated teams at Brockton after having seven undefeated teams at Archbishop Williams.  He was selected by the national coaches as Regional Coach of the Year in 1984.  During his 20 years at BHS, Armond coached all five of his sons, with Peter quarterbacking two undefeated teams and a Super Bowl winner; Chuck winning the 1980 Super Bowl and son Tom winning two Super Bowls.  Sons Donald and Danny played backfield on the first title team.  Colombo's teams won 26 straight before losing to Leominster in 1988, but finished with their sixth Super Bowl title.
