EASTON, Mass. (August 7, 2018) – A total of 279 Stonehill College student-athletes have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Spring 2018 Commissioner's Honor Roll for earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Sixty-two percent of all NE10 student-athletes were recognized by the NE10, which tied the conference's high mark, which was accomplished in fall 2016. The NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes the conference's student-athletes for their achievements within the classroom. In order to be eligible for the selection, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Among the 284 student-athletes that posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the NE10, Stonehill saw ten achieve the maximum grade point average. Seven out of the ten did so during their team's seasons. Earning the highest of honors while in season were women's basketball senior Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) and sophomore Grace Carter (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) and softball senior Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Greenville). Men's track and field juniors Alex Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) and Riley Dowd (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial), women's tennis junior Melissa Parker (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) and women's track and field junior Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth). Sophomore volleyball student-athlete Rachel Dunlavy (Brighton, Michigan/Father Gabriel Richard), men's soccer sophomore Daniel Pereira (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton), and football sophomore Michael Curtin (Sterling, Massachusetts/Nashoba Regional) were also among the ten perfect GPA's.
Football led with the most student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll with 66 being named to the list. On the women's side, volleyball had 93% of its student-athletes being named to the honor roll, while lacrosse (86%) and women's soccer (85%) followed. From the men's teams, men's soccer had the highest percent named with 77%, as men's track and field combined for 69%, while men's tennis and football each had 64% tabbed on the list.
Named to the list, Demeule and classmate Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) earned their first All-America honors as they set the school record at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships running in the 4000-meter distance medley relay. The duo helped the team clock in a time of 9:49.12, good for fifth place, to earn All-America honors for the first time since 2015 for the Skyhawks and eighth time over program history.
Four other All Americans were named, including Martin, who was selected for the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Coaches' All-America Team, the Division II Bulletin All-America Team, and D2CCA (Division II Conference Commissioner's Association) third team. The senior guard assisted the Skyhawks to a memorable 2017-18 season with a 29-4 overall record and a No. 8 ranking in the final WBCA Division II poll. They Skyhawks also returned to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the third time in program history after winning the East Regional as the top seed.

Senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Douglas) also tallied her first All-America honor this year with a 27th-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. She clocked in a time of 21:34.4 out of 247 competitors. Classmate and track & field teammate Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) joined the list of first-time All-Americans with her 11th-place mark in pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships clearing a height of 12 feet, 3.5 inches.
Field hockey junior Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) and sophomore Michaela Antonellis (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) were both recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) by being tabbed on the Longstreth/NFCA All-America first team after a 13-7 record overall to earn the program's ninth NCAA Tournament bid.
With 21 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. While finishing in the top three of the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup standings for overall athletic performance 13 straight years, the Skyhawks are ranked third in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings for Division II used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
