Stonehill Announces Fall 2017 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll

55% of Skyhawk student-athletes recognized for posting GPAs of 3.20 or higher during Fall 2017 semester

EASTON, Mass. (February 13, 2018) - Stonehill College has announced its Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the Fall 2017 semester, recognizing 233 student-athletes who have earned a semester grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Each of Stonehill's intercollegiate athletic programs were represented on this semester's list, with about 55-percent of our 424 student-athletes making the list.

Leading the way with 53 student-athletes recognized was the football team. Not far behind was the women's track and field (27), men's track and field (18), the women's soccer (17) and women's lacrosse (17), and men's soccer (16). The women's cross country team saw nearly 83-percent of their roster earn Honor Roll recognition as the named volleyball was the next women's sports with 71% of the team was recognized, while on the men's side men's soccer and men's tennis had 62% and 55% of their teams named to the list, respectively. Overall, an outstanding 55% of Stonehill's student-athletes finished out their semester with GPAs equal to or higher than a 3.20.

Among the 233 student-athletes named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, seven achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average, three of which did so during their team's seasons. Earning the highest of honors while in season were football senior Charlie Calenda (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) and sophomore Michael Curtin (Sterling, Massachusetts/Nashoba Regional), and women's soccer freshman Miranda Ciccarelli (Littleton, Colorado/Heritage). Senior softball student-athlete Erin Brayden (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), women's lacrosse senior Kelly Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) and junior Isabelle Kenny (Niantic, Connecticut/East Lyme), and sophomore women's track and field student-athlete Sinead O'Brien (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) were also among the seven perfect GPAs.

Of the 22 student-athletes on the field hockey team, 10 of them earned their spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Among them, junior Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) who showed excellence both in the classroom and on the field. Smith repeated as NE10 Player of the Year, earning her a spot on the All-NE10 first team. Synapse Sports also honored her as the Offensive Player of the Year, which was followed up by NFHCA All-America first team. Smith then was named NFHCA East Region Player of the Year for the second-straight season and then Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year; a testament to her 41 goals, 99 points scored, and overall remarkable performance in the program's history.

Senior forward and leading scorer of the men's soccer program Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) achieved an honor roll worthy GPA, while also being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team. Branco, who is just the second men's soccer player to receive this honor earned a 3.55 GPA this semester as an international business major.

Football's senior defensive back Donovan Phanor (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth) also was tabbed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll after earning a 3.58 GPA as a finance major. Phanor was also selected on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Super Region 1 team and is the 12th Stonehill football student-athlete to earn All-District honors in program history.

With 21 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. While finishing in the top three of the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup standings for overall athletic performance 13 straight years, the Skyhawks are ranked third in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings for Division II used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
