The 2016-17 academic year marks the fifth year in which a Man of the Year will be named, while the NE10 Woman of the Year honoree will be put forth as the NE10's official NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

Among the 31 nominees in the two categories, cross country and track and field student-athletes account for eight nominees, while basketball and soccer players each totaled five of the 31 candidates. There were four field hockey student-athletes nominated, and three lacrosse players as well as three swimmers.

Eight-time All-American in cross country and track and field, Borofski started and ended her career with honors as she was first named the NE10 Cross Country Rookie of the Year after placing ninth at the NE10 Championships, 11th at the NCAA East Regional and made an appearance in her first NCAA Championship. She has totaled 15-straight NE10 Championship events including those in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. The healthcare administration major has been a participant in nine NCAA Division II Championships in her four years as a Skyhawk and has helped Stonehill to 11 NE10 Championships: three cross country, four indoor and outdoor titles.

Santo has been named to the All-East Region team five times in his career. The Newburyport, Massachusetts native has captured two NE10 Championship titles in the 10000-meter run and the 5000-meter run. He has also captured three runner-up finishes at the NE10 Championships over his four years. The marketing major has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for all seven semesters, while also being tabbed on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for five semesters. Santo was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team for three years and selected on the CoSIDA Cross Country and Track & Field Academic All-District I First Team in 2016.

The list of Man and Woman of the Year nominees are senior student-athletes that have excelled in all areas of their collegiate careers, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The two respective winners are set to be announced and honored at the NE10 Year-End banquet in Foxboro, Massachusetts next month.
