269 Stonehill Student-Athletes Named to Fall 2016 NE10 Honor Roll

EASTON, Mass. (January 26, 2017) – A total of 269 Stonehill College student-athletes have been named to the Northeast 10 Conference Fall 2016 Commissioner's Honor Roll for earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, the league office announced.

Stonehill's 269 honorees for the fall semester rank seventh in the NE10 as 61% of all NE10 student-athletes were represented on the total Fall 2016 list. This matches a Conference record, one that was set during the Spring 2016 semester. 14 of the 15 member institutions had at least 50% of their total student-athlete population claim NE10 Commissioner Honor Roll accolades.

Six Stonehill student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester highlighted by men's tennis junior Thomas Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM), football junior Jake Ehrhardt (Mahwah, New Jersey/Mahwah), cross country junior Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) and volleyball freshman Rachel Dunlavy (Brighton, Michigan/Father Gabriel Richard) who all did so while competing during their team's season. Also earning 4.0 semester GPAs for the Skyhawks were junior Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) from the men's track and field program and women's lacrosse senior Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip).

The women's soccer program led the way for all Skyhawks landing 27 of its 30 (90%) student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Women's cross country was close behind with 86-percent (18-of-21), then women's tennis with 80-percent (8-of-10). Men's tennis broke up the streak of women's sports in the fourth position with 78-percent of the team on the honor roll (7-of-9), followed by the women's track and field team with 77-percent (36-of-47) and then four teams with 67-percent, including softball (10-of-15), women's lacrosse (18-of-27), men's soccer (18-of-27), and volleyball (8-of-12).

Thomas Buckley was one of six Stonehill student-athletes with a 4.0 for the Fall 2016 semester.

During the fall semester, women's soccer was named NE10 Champions for the third time in program history and moved on to its first NCAA Tournament bid. Field hockey appeared in its eighth NCAA Tournament, being ranked sixth in the nation. Men's cross country earned second at the NE10 Championship meet and NCAA East Regional Championship, punching its 14th-straight ticket to NCAAs. The women's squad won its 15th NE10 Championship, its 14th NCAA East Regional Championship in 17 years, and its 17th-straight appearance at the NCAA Division II Championship.

Also included on this semester's NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll were All-America selections senior women's soccer player Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown), and field hockey teammates sophomore Kacie Smith (Norwood, Mass./Norwood), senior Sarah Morse (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional), and senior Shea Healy (Greenfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley).

With 21 intercollegiate sports, after announcing the addition of women's golf for the 2017-18 academic year, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. While finishing in the top three of the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup standings for overall athletic performance 12 straight years, the Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first six years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 96% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA three straight years, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for sixth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with 11 Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked third in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings for Division II used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
