EASTON, Mass. (December 7, 2015) – The Stonehill College cheerleading team has announced the signing of Leigha Hedtler to its roster through Team IMPACT at Merkert Gymnasium on Saturday.

Leigha, 12-years old, signed on to become a member of the cheerleading team with her mother and Stonehill’s head cheerleading coach Christine Burke sitting beside her. She was given her own Stonehill cheerleading uniform and took pictures with the team after the signing ceremony.

“We are so excited for Leigha to join our cheer family,” said Christine Burke. “She is such a beautiful young lady and super talented too. We are very lucky to have her and we’d like to thank Team IMPACT for finding us a perfect match!”

Leigha was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma last January. Melanoma is a cancer of the skin and stage 4 means that it has spread to other areas of her body. Leigha is being treated with an immunotherapy, and is the first child to ever undergo this treatment at Dana Farber. Leigha, who is the ninth member of Team IMPACT to sign on to become a member of the Skyhawk athletics family, loves to cheer, play field hockey, and her favorite foods are steak and pineapples. Leigha enjoys TV shows such as “Mountain Vet” and loves all of the Disney Channel movies. Her favorite athlete is Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots.

Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges Together) is a New England based non-profit organization that aims at improving the quality of life for kids facing life-threatening illnesses by creating unparalleled team based support systems with area college athletic teams. Leigha is the latest from Team IMPACT to join the Skyhawk family as she is the first cheerleading match and joins, ice hockey, volleyball, soccer, baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, and field hockey to be involved with the program.
