EASTON, Mass. (February 6, 2014) – A total of 260 Stonehill College student-athletes have been named to the Fall 2013 Northeast-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, it was announced today by the league office.

Stonehill’s total of 260 is the second highest in the Northeast-10, behind only Bentley University’s 370. Student-athletes from each of Stonehill’s 19 NE-10-affiliated athletic programs were represented on this semester’s list, including 48 from the football team, 29 from the women’s track and field team, and 21 from the women’s soccer team.
Five student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester, including senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) from the Northeast-10 and East Region Champion women’s cross country team, senior second team All-America midfielder Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) from the NE-10 runner-up field hockey team, senior captain Timothy Canniff (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) from the men’s soccer team, sophomore thrower Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) from the women’s track and field team, and sophomore infielder Alison Sumski (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) from the softball team.
Also included on the Fall 2013 Honor Roll was junior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) from the ice hockey team, junior guard Amy Pelletier (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) from the women’s basketball team, and junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) from the women’s track and field team.

Tasiopoulos is in the midst of an historic season, as he has posted a program-record five shutouts while leading the hockey team to an undefeated 7-0 record in Northeast-10 play with three games remaining in the 2013-14 campaign. Pelletier has started all 18 games for the women’s basketball team, and she currently ranks second on the team in minutes per game (30.3), points per game (15.8), and assists per game (2.6). Through the first four meets of the indoor track and field season, Curit has set two new Stonehill records. At the Joe Donahue Games on January 24th, her school and meet record time of 56.85 seconds in the 400-meter dash both earned her a first-place finish and was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. One week later at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet, Curit was part of the 4000-meter distance medley relay team that set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 11:52.27.
With 20 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. The Skyhawks have finished in the top three in the final NE-10 Presidents' Cup standings nine straight years, winning the Cup four times, including a streak of three-straight from 2009-10 through 2011-12. This prestigious award is given to the top performing athletic school in the Northeast-10, across all sports and seasons. Stonehill has received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first two years if the program's existence of honoring programs with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. The Skyhawks have earned a 97% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for fifth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
