205 student-athletes acknowledged for earning 3.20 GPA or better during the Fall 2013 semester

EASTON, Mass. (January 10, 2014) – Stonehill College has announced its Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the Fall 2013 semester.
A total of 205 student-athletes representing each of Stonehill’s 20 intercollegiate athletic programs were recognized for earning a semester grade point average of 3.20 or better. Five student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester, including senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) from the Northeast-10 and East Region Champion women’s cross country team, senior second team All-America midfielder Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) from the NE-10 runner-up field hockey team, senior captain Timothy Canniff (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) from the men’s soccer team, sophomore thrower Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) from the women’s track and field team, and sophomore infielder Alison Sumski (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) from the softball team.
Ingersoll, a two-time second team All-America and two-time Northeast-10 All-Conference first team selection, helped lead Stonehill to an 18-4 record and the fifth NCAA Tournament bid in program history, while LaRegina earned All-East Region honors after her 14th place finish helped Stonehill capture its fifth consecutive East Region title and 14th straight trip to the NCAA Championships.
Also highlighting the Honor Roll selections are LaRegina’s teammate, senior captain Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), who registered the fifth All-America performance in Stonehill women’s cross country history with her 36th place finish at the NCAA Championships in Spokane, Wash., and senior cornerback James Lanier (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) from the NE-10 regular season co-champion football team, who maintained the highest GPA on the team while being named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is awarded to the American college football player with the best combination of academics, community service, and on-field performance.

Other selections include junior Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) from the men’s cross country and track and field teams, and sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) from the volleyball team. Wilcox was a Northeast-10 champion and All-New England performer in the 10,000 meter run last spring, while also earning second team All-Northeast-10 and All-East Region honors for helping the cross country team collect its third straight conference title and first East Region crown since 2007. Phillips became the third student-athlete in Stonehill volleyball history to garner American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region accolades, and also earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Conference first team after leading Stonehill with 3.10 kills per set (third in the NE-10) and 15 double-doubles in 2013.
With 20 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. The Skyhawks have finished in the top three in the final NE-10 Presidents' Cup standings nine straight years, winning the Cup four times, including a streak of three-straight from 2009-10 through 2011-12. This prestigious award is given to the top performing athletic school in the Northeast-10, across all sports and seasons. Stonehill has received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first two years if the program's existence of honoring programs with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. The Skyhawks have earned a 97% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for fifth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with ten Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs. Stonehill has also been recently named host of the 2016 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships at W.B. Mason Stadium.
