Stonehill Announces Athletic Director’s Honor Roll

217 student-athletes acknowledged for earning 3.20 GPA or better during the fall semester

Athletic Director’s Honor Roll List

EASTON, Mass. (February 15, 2013) – Stonehill College announced the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the fall 2012 semester Thursday afternoon.

A total of 217 student-athletes across Stonehill’s 20 intercollegiate athletic programs were recognized for earning a grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better during the fall semester. The Skyhawk football team led the way with 22 of its student-athletes making the list. The women’s soccer team followed with 21 and the men’s track and field team ranked third with 20 of its student athletes earning recognition.

Junior Asia Ewing (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) of the 18th ranked women’s basketball team leads three women’s basketball players on the list. Senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wisc./Aquinas), the equestrian team’s Cacchione Cup rider for 2012-13 season, is one of 17 equestrian riders to earn honor roll recognition.

Also earning honor roll recognition is two-time All-American track team member Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John’s Prep) and NEISL All-Star Game Selection Stephen Hugel (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury), captain of the men’s soccer team.

Several freshmen made the list, including softball’s Megan Ruonavaara (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) who posted a perfect 4.0 in her first semester at Stonehill. Freshman Anthony Masucci (East Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) of the Stonehill football team made the honor roll at the same time he made 15 tackles including 0.5 tackles for loss in 10 games for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill captured the Northeast-10 Presidents’ Cup for the third-straight year at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year and ranked 68th in the final Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings which recognizes overall athletic achievement in NCAA championships. Stonehill, which received one of the inaugural Division II Presidents’ Awards for Academic Excellence last spring, has boasted an NCAA Academic Success Rate (ASR) over 97% each of the last three years. The athletic department is ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs, marking a fourth straight top ten placement.
