EASTON, Mass. (April 5, 2013) - Stonehill College held its annual Academic Excellence Recognition Breakfast at Alumni Hall this morning. The event is the signature event for the College in recognition of National Student-Athlete Week as administrators, faculty and athletic staff presented St. Thomas Aquinas medals as well as its Outstanding Faculty Member Award.

The event honors student-athletes from Stonehill’s 20 varsity programs who have the highest cumulative grade point average on their respective teams through the Fall 2012 semester. Those students are presented with St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medals. Of the 19 medal recipients today, six are repeat honorees, with seniors Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy), from the ice hockey program, Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), from the women’s tennis team and Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist), from the volleyball program, finishing their career by being honored at their third breakfast.

In addition, junior Catie Kelly (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), vice chairperson of Stonehill's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, presented the athletic department's Outstanding Faculty Member Award to Timothy Woodcock, ‘93, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Stonehill.

Woodcock is a former track and field athlete at Stonehill who teaches Calculus I and II, Basic Quantitative Techniques, Linear Algebra and Combinatorics and Graph Theory at the College. He is a non-resident doctoral candidate in mathematics at the University of Virginia. Prior to his appointment at Stonehill, Woodcock was a high school mathematics teacher in Western Massachusetts. His research interests include the interplay between algebra and combinatorics; finding new combinatorial insights into old problems. Woodcock is part of a project that recently received Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship funding from the National Science Foundation, the largest grant in Stonehill’s history.
